I remember finding Yoga as a teen, growing up in Canada. I was intrigued, and most importantly, I felt good. Without understanding the depth of Yoga as a science, I just knew it felt right. I was on a search to learn more and understand how it allowed my body and mind to find balance, and connect to a deep soul knowing to emerge from the heart.
In 1991, I went on to study Physiotherapy in England, driven by a quest to further understand the body and how to restore health and recovery after illness or injury. After moving to New Zealand in 1995, I pursued further post graduate studies in Manipulative Therapy, Acupuncture, and Women's Health. All the while, for me, practicing Yoga was the bridge that combined Western science with Eastern energy medicine and spirituality.
I understood and felt the experience of wholeness that is healing through the practice of connection and awareness that is Yoga. Firmly rooted in my own Yoga and Meditation practice, and having the felt experience of personal healing physically, mentally, emotionally and spritually through Yoga, my passion now is to teach and share this. In 2016, I completed an 18 month Yoga Teacher Diploma through IYTA (www.iyta.co.nz) then Meditation Teacher Training in the lineage of Kriya Yoga through Ananda NZ. I am grateful to all my teachers.
On May 10th 2016, I began teaching from home and created Kokoro Studio. Exactly 10 years before to the day, my Dad gave me the Japanese symbol Kokoro, before he passed.
In Japanese culture, Kokoro unites the notions of heart, mind, and spirit. Kokoro sees these three elements as being indivisible from one other.
In Maori, the word Wairua encapsulates a similar meaning.
Wairua spirit, soul - spirit of a person which exists beyond death. It is the non-physical spirit. To some, the wairua resides in the heart or mind of someone while others believe it is part of the whole person and is not located at any particular part of the body.
I am a householder Yogini, mother, wife and organic farmer. My husband and I are Certified Organic Growers and operate Ferretti Growers, an Organic Market Garden in Brightwater. I strongly feel that connection to the food we eat, and that the ecology of this planet is vital to our health and well -being.
I look forward to welcoming you to Kokoro Studio and sharing my love of yoga & meditation with you.
Lokah Samastha Sukino Bhavantu. May all Beings Find Peace Happiness and Freedom.
